Beijing airport is an international airport located in China. Beijing Capital International Airport Company limited operated the airport as they own it. The IAKA code for Beijing international airport is based on city name Peking and the code is PEK. Beijing airport is considered as world’s busiest airport because of the passenger traffic. In 2009, Beijing airport is known as the world’s 3rd busiest airport as it was capable of handling 65,329,851 passengers. Regarding aircraft movement it is ranked as 10th in the world.
The Beijing airport is a main hub for many airlines such as Air china, Hainan and china southern airlines. Because of its good services and facilities such as cleanliness, language handling, clarity of sign etc, it is named as world’s best airport. In 2009, first time Beijing airport was listed in top airport list. After Dubai international airport the 2nd largest airport terminal is built at Beijing airport in order to handle the increasing amount of travelers. Also, with respect to area, Beijing capital international airport is considered as world’s 3rd largest building.
Initially when Beijing airport was opened (opened on March 2nd, 1958), for the use of charter and VIP flights it has one small terminal. On September 20th, 2004 the new terminal which was opened on November 1st, named as terminal 2. Few airlines used terminal 1 for domestic and international flights while all other airlines used terminal 2 for international and domestic flights. In order to handle the traffic congestion, a new run way was opened on October 29th, 2007. In February 2008, the completion of terminal 3 ended. It was largest expansion which was funded by 500 million Euro loan. The agreement for loan from EIB (European investment bank) was signed in September 2005.
In order to co-locate alliance members, terminal 3-E is used as a part of “Move under One Roof Program” by star alliance members.
